The free for tips Monkey Bus is a necessity whenever visiting Anna Maria Island. When wanting to travel around Anna Maria Island, Cortez Island, and cross the bridges, the Monkey Bus has the ability to go to all of these places upon request. Our recommendation is that you visit Anna Maria City Pier for a stroll on the boardwalk and enjoy the plethora of fishing opportunities there. There is free parking along South Bay Boulevard for those who wish to drive there on their own, and the pier is open to the public for free. A restaurant located at the end of the pier, The City Pier Grill and Bait Shop, offers food and ice cream before going on your next adventure or going back to the vacation rental to enjoy some downtime.
For those who are avid fishermen, they can check out any one of the three piers on Anna Maria Island. All of the piers are accessible from the free trolley that travels around the island. These piers are a part of Anna Maria Island’s history and are called:
Rod and Reel Pier
Anna Maria Island City Pier
Bridge Street Pier
For the best fishing on Anna Maria Island, we recommend the Anna Maria City Pier. In addition to its beautiful boardwalk, it also offers great fishing opportunities as well as activities for the rest of the family!
Anna Maria Island is home to some of the finest beaches in Florida. Many of our guests come to the island simply for some rest and relaxation on the beach. The best beaches that Anna Maria Island has to offer are:
Bradenton Beach
Coquina Beach
Manatee Public Beach
Beer Can Island Beach
Bayfront Park
In addition to being a beach, Bean Point Beach is a historical landmark. If you are interested in being just steps from this historical beach, we have some great rentals for you to choose from. Our most popular Bean Point Beach rentals are:
It was George Emerson Bean who founded Anna Maria Island by settling in Bean Point. The island was founded by him in 1892, and he chose to settle on a 160-acre homestead on the northern tip of the island. It is still one of the most scenic parts of the island, despite the fact that the homestead is no longer there. The area is a wonderful place to visit because there is nothing to obstruct the view of the clear, blue water. This part of the island does not have any facilities such as parking lots, so be prepared to walk.
While visiting Bean Point, our guests can enjoy the Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum and Old Jail, which provides an ample amount of history pertaining to the island. The AMI Trolley even has a stop at Crescent Drive at Pine Avenue which is right at the historical society. Admission is free!
On the southern end of the island, Bradenton Beach is another popular beach destination. The fact that this area is only accessible via Cortex Road or Longboat Key can sometimes cause traffic congestion. This is, however, not a reason to avoid visiting this beach, as it is often quiet and peaceful due to its distance from the main road. The Bridge Street Market is nearby and the perfect place to enjoy fantastic food, beautiful art, talented local musicians, fresh produce, and so much more. There are plenty of places along the beaches in Anna Maria Island that provides beach equipment rentals where kayaks, wind surfboards, and even jet skis amongst many other things are available for daily rentals. Many of our guests enjoy walking along the beach and searching for the elusive and beautiful sand dollars.
For those who wish to travel a little farther, they can take the free trolley to Coquina Beach on the southern end of the island. Besides walking on the soft white sand boardwalks, you can also admire the tall pine trees that line the boardwalks and the Sarasota bay in the distance.
