A member of the CRMP (collapsing response mediator protein) family, which is believed to be involved in brain development, is encoded by this gene. Some patients with paraneoplastic illness who exhibited neurologic symptoms also expressed antibodies to the encoded protein. This gene's pseudogene can be located on chromosome 11. Several different splice variants encode the same protein that has been found. DPYSL5 antibody may play a role in axon growth and/or neuronal differentiation.
