Here’s how to authenticate the Brand Label on Denims
Clothing counterfeiters can be found all over the globe making fake fashion apparels and duping customers. As such, if you are someone who loves to buy denims only from reputed brands, you must read up on how to authenticate the brand label on denims.
Counterfeit denim doesn’t follow a standard manufacturing quality. They are made with poor-quality materials that might mimic the style and appearance of the original one but lack the internal look and feel. While starting my new boutique, I had to connect with various vendors for raw materials. Eventually, I connected with a clothing label maker online and got to know how each and every little thing on the denim matters to determine its price and quality. They also guided me to identify authentic denim and its dupes. Here are a few factors you must weigh while investing in your next pair of branded jeans.
The Material Quality:
Reputed manufacturers use premium quality fabric to make each pair of denims. They ensure that every pair of denims within a product line is identical and made of the same quality fabric. Counterfeiters however cannot maintain this consistency and always end up using poor quality fabric which may look similar to a branded product on the outside but is never the same inside. They also use generic riveting as well as generic and unstamped zippers and zipper tags. The inside seams in fake denims is also always shorter as that immensely helps in saving on the amount of fabric being used. You can even check the branding patch at the back of the denims as those are fake and invariably made of poor quality cardboard.
The Finer Nuances seen in the internal parts of the denims:
Reputed manufacturers of denims use close stitched threading in order to attach the inside panels. However, a counterfeit product would invariably have longer stitched threads with longer spacing between them as this process of stitching is much faster and speeds up production. Besides, most reputed manufacturers use the cost and time intensive process of screen printing to print the style code and number in the inside tags which the counterfeiters cannot replicate. You should always watch out for these identifiers to spot a pair of fake denims. Another great identifier of a counterfeit product would be the fonts. Most reputed manufacturers hire reputed clothing label makers who use proprietary fonts to print relevant information on the labels and if you are someone who is passionate about buying original denims you must know about these fonts before you go out to buy one. This way there will be very less chances of picking up fake products.
Quality and make of the accessories:
Reputed manufacturers use superior quality zippers ad zipper tags which are also stamped with the logo or lettering. Additionally, the rivets they use are also of very good quality and are always stamped with the brand’s logo. If you do not see the brand stamps on these accessories, you can rest assured that the product is a fake.
Micro Stitching:
Most high-value brands use this tool to safeguard their products from counterfeiters. They often have a code or brand information in very fine micro stitching added to the bottom of the brand labels. Looking for this fine stitching could be a sure shot way to authenticate the brand label on a pair of denims.
While these are some very prominent identifiers, you can also spot a fake pair of denims simply by holding the material in your hand and feeling it from inside as well as outside. A fake pair of denims would be heavy, coarse and may even have discolorations here and there.
With little attention to detail and some experience you can always get a pair of authentic denims and not get tricked into buying a counterfeit product for the cost of the original.
