The second quarter of 2019 was the most recent time that a wd external hard drive model was included in our study. Two hundred and sixty-one WDC boot drives and three 6TB WDC drives are still in use, but none of them are recorded in our reports, which means there are no WDC drives—at least not yet. 6,002 of these 14TB drives, which have the model number WUH721414ALE6L4, were installed during the fourth quarter and operational as of December 31.
Clearly, these drives are descended from the HGST drives; however, they use the WDC manufacturer rather than the HGST company to indicate their manufacturer. There is a similarity between the model numbers, with the first three letters changing from HUH to WUH and the final three characters changing from 604 to 6L4, for example. We cannot determine the relevance of such modification; it might be the production location, a firmware version, or some other identification. Please share your knowledge with everyone in the comments section. As is the case with all of the leading drive manufacturers, the model number is not created randomly and contains patterned information specific to each drive type. As a result, the string 6L4 has some significance.
WDC is returning with a bang, as the AFR for this drive type is just 0.16%. Even though there are 6,002 wd hard drive installed, they have only been so for an average of 1.7 months. Still, they are off to a fantastic start since they have only had one failure over that period. We eagerly anticipate the results of their performance throughout the following months.
